The major Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation is the national-level major with characteristics and a famous-brand major in Shaanxi Province originally established in the 1960s. It is the earliest interdisciplinary and boundary subject major with machinery as the focus while combining machinery and electronics together in China. In 2017, it passed the national engineering education professional certification and was selected as the first-class construction major in Shaanxi Province in the same year. In 2019, it was approved as the national first-class undergraduate major construction site. It has the Key Laboratory of "Electronic Equipment Structural Design", Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of "Space-based Solar Power Station System" of Shaanxi Province, "Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation" Provincial Talent Training Mode Innovation Experimental Zone, "Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation" provincial teaching team, Provincial Experimental Teaching Center of "Mechatronic Engineering", and Provincial Experiment Teaching Center of "Electronic Equipment Virtual Simulation". It also has the post-doctoral research station of the first-class discipline of mechanical engineering and the doctor and master programs of mechanical manufacture and automation, mechatronic engineering, mechanical design and theory, electromechanical science and technology, engineering mechanics, etc. The major has trained lots of well-known scholars, engineering technicians, and senior professional management talents such as Professor BaoyanDuan, winner of the national "May 1st" Labor Medal, and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The employment rate of graduates of this major has always maintained above 97%, and most graduates mainly work in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Nanjing, Guangzhou and other areas and in industries such as machinery, radar, communication, aerospace, computer, and electronic information. They are mainly engaged in scientific research, product research and development and technology management in backbone scientific research institutes in the national defense and military industries and various IT enterprises.
